Great pics from around the region. The pics from MTL reminds how hard a ride it really is. But the pics illustrate why it will become a MTB classic.
Still to master the MTL in one day. Having tried on two occasions not yet managed to get all the way round. However, confident that on our third attempt in Sept we will complete the full 47 miles. Will let you how we get on.
In the meantime, keep up the good work.
United Kingdom

Nice one Jim, Its a classic alright and a real endurance test. lets hope its third time lucky!

Hi Ian, Great rides, the pictures are a god sent! We did a ride from your site the other week, it was really good and the pictures helped loads! Except when we lost the last page of the map and had to guess our way back!
Also on the long downhill bit we nearly mowed down a family and their dogs! We ended up in the nettles!
Thanks for your time and effort in mapping out the routes!
Cheers
Phil

Good to hear you had a good time, thanks for the feedback on the routes, ian

Hi Ian,
I'm from Rochdale. Last week i crossed over from Greenbooth Resevoirs onto the long winding uphill path and reached Top of Leach. I eventually turned back as it was an unplanned trip in hot thirsty weather. I reached a monument laid about 20 years ago by the mayor of Rossendale. I think it was to commemorate the Rossendale road or Rossendale way ??
My question is: What was the town i could see below in the distance ??
And roughly how far had i come ??
Thanks, the pictures are great.
United Kingdom

Hi Paul, from the top of Leach there are a few small towns to veiw, But I think what you could see was Waterfoot. From Rochdale to where you stood it would be about a 20 mile round trip. Well done. Ian.

Completed the Hambledon Loop on Tuesday night (06/06/06). A really good "short" (it took me almost two hours!) ride with a couple of killer climbs, especially in a 22 degree heat. The section past the quarry is awful - I found it easier to walk. Thanks for the route. Hoping to do the Cowpe Lowe Loop before the end of this month. UTC.
United Kingdom

Hi Phil, thanks for the feedback, I have a better aternative route for the bit after the quarry section now. If I get some time I will put in on-line. Ian.

Just completed the ride on sunday 14th may. Brilliant ride but took us nearly 9hours!! The weather closed in on us towards the end but the day wasn`t ruined. We went round the same way as you described, might try it the other way next time, but will leave it a few weeks to recover first!!! Brilliant ride, would recomend every mountain biker should atempt it.
United Kingdom

Thanks Dave, glad you had such a good day out. I agree its a must do ride. Its not as exciting as the forest rides this country has to offer, but I enjoy long days out on the moors. Ian.

Stumbled on your site again while researching recent publications where I had been cited. I saw where you asked what I was researching. I am a research specialist with the University of Maryland and I study nitrogen and phosphorus runoff from agriculture.
Love the picture of the bike. Who is it?

Hi again Janice, good to hear from you. The guy in the picture is a freind of mine called Bill Ould. I took the picure on a glorious spring day a few years ago on top of Stoodly Pike nr Hebden Bridge Yorkshire.
